The Wombats are a lively 3 piece indie band
hailing out of Liverpool. Started as a comedy
group they tried to ruin perfectly good pop
song by screaming in the middle of them.
But soon they enrolled in the Liverpool Institute
of Preforming Arts, and with the help of Sir Paul
McCartney, they were on the fast track to an
energetic quirky single friendly group.
The Liverpudlians launched three singles that
ended up providing the backbone for The Wombats
EP. "Patricia the Stripper" is about falling in love
with a whore. This track had the handy work of
McCartney's songwriting expertise.
"Lets Dance to Joy Division" is a spiky pop stomper
with a contagious beat, that pay homage to the stated
greats. Their first single "Moving to New York" released
in 2007 gained them rightfully the acclaim they deserved.

The Futureheads dropped album number
three on their own label NUL. As to be
expected this is a rebellious album full of
hooks and harmonies. Although they dropped
their label, they kept their punk pop energy.
This album may not as be as long as the
previous two, the riff heavy release will
easily be playing long after the album stopped.
The album opens appropriately with
"The Beginning of the Twist". The song may
be the bands battle cry, proclaiming a
imminent shift in something chaotic.
"Walking Backwards" follows with aggressive
solos and lyrics of confusion of which way to
go. The latest single "Radio Heart" is probably the
cheeriest song. Lastly, "Sale of the Century"
is a standout song that may have been found
on the Pumpkins' cutting room floor.

The anti-diva rising out of the punk underground
of Philadelphia is the one and only Santogold. At
first glance you might assume the sound of
Santogold would be R&B, think again. Santogold
is not a fan of R&B and is avidly against the racism
of the industry.
Santi White, aka. Santogold, has had quite the variety
of steps leading up to this release. Starting out fronting
the punk-ska band Stiffed, releasing two albums.
She has been a song writer for artists such as, Ashlee
Simpson and Lilly Allen. These factors have added depth
and variety to her self titled album.
Santogold has said that she felt it was out dated to think
all songs on an album should be the same, and she
exercised this mantra. The album begins with the latest
single "L.E.S. Artistes", a song about shedding her previous
persona of Santi White. "I'm a Lady" (featuring boyfriend
Trouble Andrew) sounds a bit like Liz Phair. The ska
influenced "Say Aha" has been featured in a Zune-Arts video.
Overall this album will leave you feeling satisfied. So keep an
eye out for Santogold, she been featured in a variety of Artists
to watch in '08 lists.

Besides being a social website, Myspace.com,
has proven to be a valuable forum for small
artists to reach audiences that typically wouldn't
be reached. The Chi-town hip hoppers, The Cool
Kids are prime examples. With their second release
The Bake Sale, Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish, are
adding fuel to the resently lit hipster hip-hop
movement. These two radiate all that we loved about
80's hip-hop. Jingling and bopping into our ears with
enthusiasm and witty charisma.
Proclaiming themselves as " a new black version of
the Beastie Boys" The Cool Kids remix the sounds of 80's
bling. Pagers, gold chains, and bicycles wheels us right
back to 88. "Basement Party" sound like a track from
the 1988 Supersonic, a JJFad classic. The lyrics maintain
a level of playfulness comparable to Pharcyle and keeps

Red, Yellow, & Blue is the second release
from the boisterous Canadian trio. The
youthful keeps it upbeat with yelps and
random bursts of vocal hysterics. Some
compare the lead singer, Luke LaLonde,
to that of a post-punk Buddy Holly. Along
with Luke the innovative trio is comprised
of Mitch DeRosier on bass and Steve Hamelin
on drums.
The Born Ruffians are easily compared to the
dance floor rockers, The Rapture. Tracks such
as "Hummingbird" leaves the listener feeling
that Elvis Costello is in this bands itunes library.
In addition to Elvis, the Ruffians rambunctiousness
combined with minimal setup reminds of an early
Violent Femmes. Regardless this album will have
you "hootin' and holerin'" right along.

The Islands sophomore album Arm's Way
plays like a rock opera. The cover even
being reminiscent of Queen's Night At The
Opera. Arm's Way was produced by Jeff
Lynne (ELO, Traveling Wilbury's) and mixed
by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliot Smith). Unlike
the band's first release Return To The Sea?,
with a dancehall/calypso groove, Arm's Way
has a much darker side.
Composed of ex-Unicorn band members,
Nicholas "Diamond" Thornburn and J'amie
Tambeur in Montreal, Quebec. They recorded
their first album partly in J'aime's bedroom.
A very large bedroom, having guest appearances
by members of Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade.
With this 2005 release, they secured an opening
slot on Metric's tour in early 2006.
Three singles ("The Arm", "Kids Don't Know Shit",
and "We Swim") were pre-released from Arm's
Way. "The Arm" is an upbeat and lively track
with macabre lyrics, droning of "bad-ass car crashes".
"In The Riches" finishes with a tribute to The Who
with a rendition of "A Quick One While He's Away".
All tracks are delightfully enchanting not unlike
their infamous pied piper performances.

The Ting Tings are a neo-punk explosion taking
the UK charts by storm. Their current single, "Thats
Not My Name", has limited Madonna to just four
minutes on top before knocking her off the UK Dance
Charts. The bad made up of Jules De Martino and Katie
White have strutted onto a international stage with
"Shut Up And Let Me Go". This song is now the new sound
of i pod commercials.
The Ting Tings aren't the drummer/singer duo's first attempt
together. They formed Dear Eskiimo without success due
to label complications. The Manchester pair launched their
new endeavor by bouncing their 80's pop sounds through
the UK's underground parties.
We Started Nothing electro-fies with tracks that would make
Toni Basil stand up and cheer. "That's Not My Name" has the
catchiness and the unmistakable beat of 1982's "Mickey". Their
first single "Great Dj" worked its way up the US Dance Charts
peaking at the 45th position. With the tracks radiating sounds
comparable to Blondie, The Sounds, and Republica, We Started

Carolina Liar an all Swedish Band minus the lead singer, Chad Wolf,
hit the scene with a little help from MTV's The Hill's. Their single "I'm
Not Over" was featured on an April 2008 episode.
Chad Wolf left his hometown of Charleston, SC. to the hills of Hollywood
at the age of 22. Bringing with him a sound reminiscent of The Killers
with a touch of southern charm. Along with crediting The Kooks as
influences, A-Ha makes impressions with interlacing new-wave pop
synths.
If you are looking for other stand out tracks besides "I'm Not Over",
check out "Simple LIfe". It is a haunting ballad about the struggles of
modern life, seemingly mocking their MTV springboard. "Something
To Die For" starts off with a raw acoustic intro building into a track
that will become a radio favorite.

Found this track randomly and have to say its pretty much a sweet deal. If you dig house. If you dig electro. You'll most likely be a fan.
